H\u00e4nen urheilu-uransa alkoi kyytipoikana Eerolan kestikievarissa. Eerolan talo oli ennen nykyisen ammattikoulun paikalla ja se oli Honkosen suvun omistuksessa.<\/p>\n<p>Valpas Nyholmin renkipoikapesti sattui vuosiin 1904-1906 ja seuraavassa muutamia h\u00e4nen muistelmia tuolta ajalta:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Pellonpientareella ty\u00f6nneltiin kivi\u00e4 kuulan asemasta, kun niit\u00e4 oikeita kuulia ei meill\u00e4 viel\u00e4 silloin ollut. Voimat siin\u00e4 vahvistuivat ja voimien mukaan suurennettiin kivi\u00e4!<\/p>\n<p>Kerran sattui, kun olin kyyditsem\u00e4ss\u00e4 er\u00e4st\u00e4 herraa, ett\u00e4 h\u00e4n oli urheilumies Viipurin Reippaasta, ja h\u00e4nk\u00f6s antoi meille oikein hyv\u00e4\u00e4 opetusta voimistelussa!<\/p>\n<p>Nykyisen kunnanl\u00e4\u00e4k\u00e4rin asunnon kohdalla oli silloin kauppa, jonka omisti V\u00e4in\u00f6 Ahosen is\u00e4 Otto Ahonen. Kun V\u00e4in\u00f6-poikakin oli kovasti voimistelusta kiinnostunut, niin is\u00e4 laittoi meille pojille oikean rekkitangon pihaansa. Ja kyll\u00e4 se olikin ahkerassa k\u00e4yt\u00f6ss\u00e4, kun vain muilta hommilta kerettiin!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_326\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-326\" style=\"width: 247px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vaksy.com\/pukkimaki\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/valpas_nyholm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-326 \" src=\"https:\/\/vaksy.com\/pukkimaki\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/valpas_nyholm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"391\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-326\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Valpas Nyholm 1891-1962<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"subtitle\">Voimistelun ohjaajana Huimassa<\/h2>\n<p>Voimistelusta tuli \u00c4\u00e4nekosken Huiman paraatilaji toiminnan alkuaikoina. Valpas Nyholm toimi voimistelun ohjaajana seurassa vuosina 1909-1927. Nyholm esiintyi useasti my\u00f6s er\u00e4\u00e4nlaisena voimistelunohjaajana monissa Huiman iltamissa ja turneilla. H\u00e4nen komea atleettinen vartensa oli jo tuolloin huomion ja ihailun kohteena. Siit\u00e4 syyst\u00e4 ei ollut ihme, ett\u00e4 h\u00e4nelle lankesi kunniateht\u00e4v\u00e4 toimia ty\u00f6v\u00e4en vappukulkueissa lipunkantajana.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subtitle\">Yleisurheilu p\u00e4\u00e4lajina<\/h2>\n<p>Nyholm itse piti voimistelua p\u00e4\u00e4lajinsa yleisurheilun harjoituslajina. Suurimmat saavutuksensa Valpas Nyholm tekikin yleisurheilun moniotteluissa. H\u00e4nest\u00e4 leivottiin Keski-Suomen urheilukuningas vuonna 1913. Viisiottelun lajit olivat tuolloin kuula ja kiekko kaksipuolisina, pituus, seiv\u00e4s ja 3000 metrin maastojuoksu. N\u00e4m\u00e4 kilpailut suoritettiin jossain Juv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n Tourujoen varrella olevalla aukealla, koska Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4ss\u00e4k\u00e4\u00e4n ei silloin viel\u00e4 ollut varsinaista kentt\u00e4\u00e4. Nykyisen Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n torin kohdalla ty\u00f6nnettiin kuulaa ja heitettiin kiekkoa. Aitajuoksukin oli hyvin erilaista kuin nyt, sill\u00e4 silloin juostiin aidat joka toinen aita alittaen ja joka toinen ylitt\u00e4en.<\/p>\n<p>Suomen Urheilulehti noteerasi Nyholmin saavutukset ja kertoi h\u00e4nen saaneen molempien k\u00e4sien kuulanty\u00f6nn\u00f6ss\u00e4 tuloksen 21,67 metri\u00e4 ja kiekonheitossa 61,11 metri\u00e4. Sorretun Voima kirjoitti silloin Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n Veikkoja edustaneen Nyholmin suorituksista seuraavasti:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Miesten kilpailut olivat samalla 5-ottelu piirin urheilukuninkuudesta ja saavutti sen Valpas Nyholm Veikoista 247 pisteen tuloksella. Piirin urheilukuninkaana sai V. Nyholm viel\u00e4 haltuunsa kellosepp\u00e4 August H\u00e4nnisen lahjoittaman kunniapalkinnon kaukoputken. Urheilukent\u00e4n puute tuli juhlien aikana ik\u00e4v\u00e4ll\u00e4 tavalla n\u00e4kyviin. Kilpailut oli suoritettava riitt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6m\u00e4n pienill\u00e4 ja ep\u00e4tasaisilla ruohokentill\u00e4. Pari kertaa lenn\u00e4hti kiekko yleis\u00f6n sekaankin kuitenkaan onneksi ket\u00e4\u00e4n satuttamatta. Er\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 tarjoilup\u00f6yd\u00e4ll\u00e4 vain rikkoi pulloja ja astioita.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Muutamaa p\u00e4iv\u00e4\u00e4 my\u00f6hemmin samassa lehdess\u00e4 hehkutettiin Valpas Nyholmista seuraavaan tapaan:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ja V. Nyholm saa komeilla kaikkien keskisuomalaisten urheilijain kuninkaana, joksi h\u00e4net viime sunnuntaina kruunattiin. Kyll\u00e4 sen miehen k\u00e4dest\u00e4 kiekko ja kuula lent\u00e4v\u00e4t. Viime maanantaina n\u00e4ytti mestari uteliaille komeita heittojaan. Oikeallaan lenn\u00e4tti kuulaa hyv\u00e4n joukon yli 13 m. (Vasen k\u00e4tens\u00e4 ja jalkansa oli pahoin loukkaantunut ty\u00f6maalla ennen mestaruuskisoja.) Ja vaikka h\u00e4nen painonsa on noin 85 kg, on h\u00e4n siit\u00e4 huolimatta kelpo juoksijakin. Viidenten\u00e4 n\u00e4et saapui perille mestaruuskilpailujen murtomaajuoksussa. Miehess\u00e4 olisi suuremmankin mestarin ainesta, mutta 10-tuntiset ty\u00f6p\u00e4iv\u00e4t ja ty\u00f6y\u00f6t kolkossa tehtaassa kuihduttavat voimakkaankin varren.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"subtitle\">Yleisurheilutuloksia<\/h2>\n<p>Valpas Nyholm oli jo kahta vuotta aikaisemmin 27.8.1911 tehnyt huipputuloksia \u00c4\u00e4nekoskella kymmenen p\u00e4iv\u00e4\u00e4 20-vuotisjuhlansa j\u00e4lkeen. Huima j\u00e4rjesti arpajaiset ja urheilukilpailut ty\u00f6v\u00e4entalon pihalla. Nyholm heitti paremmalla k\u00e4dell\u00e4 kiekkoa 38,00 metri\u00e4 ja huonommalla 31,64 metri\u00e4, mutta alasp\u00e4in viett\u00e4v\u00e4ll\u00e4 maalla, niin kuin Esa Laitisen tilastokirjakin toteaa. Yhteistulos oli 69,64 metri\u00e4, jolla Suomen vuositilastossa olisi oltu viidennell\u00e4 sijalla vain 8 sentti\u00e4 Is\u00e4-J\u00e4rvisen per\u00e4ss\u00e4. Suomen ylivoimainen ykk\u00f6nen t\u00e4ss\u00e4 lajissa oli tuleva olympiavoittaja Armas Taipale, joka kahden k\u00e4den kiekonheitossa oli tehnyt tuloksen 83,48 metri\u00e4. Kuulaa Nyholm ty\u00f6nsi \u00c4\u00e4nekosken kilpailuissa 12,45 + 10,66 eli 23,11 metri\u00e4, mitk\u00e4 tulokset olivat hyvi\u00e4 nekin. Suomen paras kuulamies oli tuolloin Elmer Niklander. Seip\u00e4\u00e4ss\u00e4 Valpas hypp\u00e4si 290 cm ja p\u00e4\u00e4si toiseksi, mutta ep\u00e4onnistui pituudessa ja j\u00e4i nelj\u00e4nneksi tuloksella 508 cm.<\/p>\n<p>Nyholm ei itsek\u00e4\u00e4n pit\u00e4nyt noita \u00c4\u00e4nekosken heittotuloksia virallisina, koska ilmoitti haastattelussa parhaiksi tuloksikseen kuulassa molemmilla k\u00e4sill\u00e4 22 metri\u00e4, kiekossa paremmalla k\u00e4dell\u00e4 37,5 metri\u00e4, pituudessa 550 cm, korkeudessa 160 cm ja seip\u00e4\u00e4ss\u00e4 300 cm. Vertailun vuoksi otettakoon t\u00e4h\u00e4n Suomen Urheilulehdest\u00e4 poimittuja Suomen enn\u00e4tyksi\u00e4 kahdelta vuodelta 1908 ja 1911:<\/p>\n<p class=\"subtitle\">Suomen enn\u00e4tyksi\u00e4 vuodelta 1908<\/p>\n<ul class=\"lista\">\n<li>Kuula (yhteistulos) Elmer Niklander 13,74 m + 11,24 m: 24,98 m<\/li>\n<li>Kuula (parempi k\u00e4si) Jalmari Sauli 14,06 m<\/li>\n<li>Kiekko (yhteistulos) Elmer Niklander 39,48 m + 38,33 m = 77,81 m<\/li>\n<li>Kiekko (parempi k\u00e4si) Verner J\u00e4rvinen 42,88 m<\/li>\n<li>Korkeus A.Laine 173 cm<\/li>\n<li>Korkeus A.Laine 173 cm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"subtitle\">Suomen enn\u00e4tyksi\u00e4 vuodelta 1911<\/p>\n<ul class=\"lista\">\n<li>Kuula Elmer Niklander 14,86 m<\/li>\n<li>Kiekko Armas Taipale 45,55 m (heitetty 1912)<\/li>\n<li>Korkeus A.Laine 181,2 cm<\/li>\n<li>Seiv\u00e4s U. Aalmnen 343,2 cm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"subtitle\">Tulokset kansainv\u00e4lisell\u00e4 tasolla<\/p>\n<p>N\u00e4in\u00e4 vuosina Suomen yleisurheilun taso nousi nopeasti l\u00e4hestyvien Tukholman olympialaistenkin takia. Tukholmassa 1912 kilpailtiin viel\u00e4 heittolajeissa sek\u00e4 yhteistuloksessa ett\u00e4 paremmalla k\u00e4dell\u00e4. Kuulassa Niklander ty\u00f6nsi yhteistuloksen 27,14 metri\u00e4 ja oli kolmas. Kiekossa Armas Taipale voitti molemmat kilpailut heitt\u00e4en 45,21 metri\u00e4 ja molempien k\u00e4sien kilpailuissa 44,68 + 38,18 eli yhteens\u00e4 82,66 metri\u00e4. Niklander otti yhteistuloksellaan hopeaa. Valpas Nyholm olisi vuoden 1911 \u00c4\u00e4nekosken tuloksellaan ollut t\u00e4ss\u00e4 lajissa kuudes. Mutta \u00c4\u00e4nekoskella ei olympiakisoista tuohon aikaan haaveiltu, tuskin niit\u00e4 seurattiinkaan ainakaan ty\u00f6v\u00e4en piiriss\u00e4.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"subtitle\">Perhe ja suku<\/h2>\n<p>Valpas Nyholm oli naimisissa vanhan kilpatoverinsa Otto Kangasniemen 7.10.1895 syntyneen sisaren Hanna Maria Nyholmin o.s. Kangasniemen kanssa. Hanna Nyholm oli sittemmin tiiviisti mukana \u00c4\u00e4nekosken kunnallispolitiikassa, valtuuston lis\u00e4ksi mm. raittiuslautakunnassa, jonka sihteerin\u00e4 h\u00e4n oli paljon tekemisiss\u00e4 my\u00f6s urheiluasioiden kanssa. Nyholmien perheeseen syntyi tyt\u00e4r Sirkka Marjatta 17.10.1921.<\/p>\n<p>Valpas Nyholmin veli 22.12.1899 syntynyt Voitto Ilmari Nyholm oli my\u00f6s erinomainen urheilija. H\u00e4n kilpaili enimm\u00e4kseen voimistelussa. Molemmat veljekset lienev\u00e4t kokeilleen my\u00f6s painia, jota ruvettiin harrastelemaan paikkakunnalla vuoden 1917 paikkeilla ja josta 1920-luvulla tuli l\u00e4hes seuran ykk\u00f6slaji. Voitto Nyholmin perheeseen syntyi 8.11.1923 poika, jolle annettiin nimeksi Aarne Aatos Nyholm. H\u00e4nest\u00e4 tuli aikanaan hyv\u00e4 painija, kuulanty\u00f6nt\u00e4j\u00e4, Huiman puheenjohtaja vuosiksi 1958-1971 ja HetVoa sirkuksen sirkustireht\u00f6\u00f6ri.
